Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Performance Optimization and Tuning Handbook Ken England For those who want to increase the depth of their understanding on how SQL Server works. Indexes, locking and performance are explained in depth. A good book for the aspirant expert. I've read 2 of his SQL books, & both were excellent.

Inside Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Kalen Delaney If you haven't read this or previous versions, then your not an expert - sorry - get it & study it & you soon will be. The previous version for 6.5 & 7 were excellent. You'll recognise Kalen from her articles in SQL Server Magazine which I have found to be interesting & clearly explained.
